Young Professionals LogoMentoring

This program involves a BMA professional taking a student under his or her wing. The senior professional will offer advice in his or her area of professional development, and guide the student as he or she prepares to enter the working world, or navigates those first several months in a professional environment.

Internships and Career Shadowing

Job experience is the key to unlocking opportunities, but how do you get the experience to get the job? BMA understands the difficulties and offers a career placement program of marketing internships and career shadowing opportunities for students. Students with ambition and the drive to succeed are placed with top career professionals — sometimes for a day or for a length of time — all giving you the skills you need to succeed.

BMA Student Outreach Roadshow

The Roadshow is designed to lessen the barrier between seasoned professionals and young students. The Roadshow will go to selected colleges and universities and provide educational seminars on specific subjects that are of most interest to students. Mentoring

For Students:

College will soon be coming to a close, and there’s a whole new phenomenon waiting for you out there – it’s called “the working world.” With that reality staring you in the face, don't you wish you had someone to talk to about life beyond college? Someone who could advise you about the profession you’ve chosen, the companies to which you should apply and how to get ahead? If yes, the Colorado Business Marketing Association’s mentoring program may be a great choice for you.

Simply put, a mentoring relationship means that a B2B marketing professional with experience in an area of your choice will take you under his or her wing and offer advice. You can choose a mentor with experience in any of the following categories:

  • Marketing/Product Manager – (Client Side)
  • Account Executive/Project Manager – (Agency Side)
  • Market Research
  • Media Planner
  • Creative Director/Art Director/Graphic Artist
  • Copywriter
  • Web Specialist
  • E-Marketing/Search Engine Optimization
  • Events/Trade Show Manager

If you are interested in signing up for a mentor, email the BMA Colorado student committee chair to request the BMA mentoring program application form for students and young professionals. The form will ask you to identify the category in which you would like to be placed. (You may choose up to three categories, but be sure to indicate your preference by rating them, with one being the area of greatest interest.) Email completed applications to info@bmacolorado.org.

Once we’ve received your application, we will pair you with a professional BMA member who has extensive experience in the area of your choice.

You and your mentor will sign an agreement that will define the terms of your arrangement. The agreement gives recommendations for success; for example, we recommend that you meet once a month. We even provide suggestions on topics that you can discuss. The length of the mentoring relationship is one year and there is absolutely no cost to you. The only requirement is that you are registered as a BMA student member.

For Mentors:

Get involved, help a young professional, share your experience. BMA’s "Thrive" mentoring program is currently taking applications for mentors. To help ensure a good match, we’re allowing student members to choose from professional BMA members with experience in the following categories:

  • Marketing/Product Manager – (Client Side)
  • Account Executive/Project Manager – (Agency Side)
  • Market Research
  • Media Planner
  • Creative Director/Art Director/Graphic Artist
  • Copywriter
  • Web Specialist
  • E-Marketing/Search Engine Optimization
  • Events/Trade Show Manager

If you are interested in mentoring a student or young professional, email the BMA Colorado student committee chair to request the BMA mentoring program application form for mentors. The form will ask you to identify the category in which you would like to be placed. (You may choose more than one if you have strong experience in several areas.) Once we’ve received your application, we will pair you with a student (usually a senior college student) or young professional (an individual who has 0-2 years of experience in a professional environment) who has requested to learn about your area of expertise. Email completed applications to info@bmacolorado.org.

You and the young professional will sign an agreement that will define the terms of your arrangement. The agreement will give recommendations for success; for example, we recommend that you meet once a month. We even provide suggestions on topics that you can discuss. The length of the mentoring relationship is one year.
